You’ll gain insight into a broad spectrum of financial fundamentals including budgeting, financial analysis, treasury and payroll.

To be successful in this team you’ll have strong numerical, analytical and Excel skills together with robust verbal reasoning and communication. You won’t be afraid to interact with people across the business to achieve your goals. Ideal candidates will be studying a relevant Finance degree.

Your Development

Your development

Over twelve months, your placement will challenge, inspire and develop you, using a combination of structured learning and on-the-job experience. To make sure we give you the opportunities and exposure you need to grow, we’ll examine your application closely before aligning you to a business area that suits your skills and interests. We’ll then focus on giving you the support you need to progress and, at the end of the process, be considered for a place on our Graduate programme.

Once you’ve joined us, you’ll be partnered with a buddy, attend regular meeting with your managers and shadow other departments. This will allow you to enhance your strengths, as well as identifying and filling in any gaps in your knowledge. We actively encourage our Undergraduates to be proactive and explore our business – if you want to try new things, we’ll always listen and do our best to meet your needs.

During your time here, you’ll also be involved in group projects. These will put you at the heart of the Volkswagen Group UK, showing you what it takes to keep one of the UK’s leading businesses running. You’ll receive regular reviews, every three months, which will help you to track, manage and improve your performance. And you’ll study specific training modules – including Presentation Skills and Commercial Awareness – which will give you the all-round understanding you need to succeed in a Graduate role.

Driven by collaboration
Success starts with the people around you. I don’t just enjoy working with my team – I’m learning from them. It’s all part of the culture. We support each other, regardless of our level or background. If somebody needs help, we go out of our way to make things happen. That doesn’t just make this a great place to work – it’s inspiring. That’s what matters most, being passionate about what you do, because you know you’re developing, personally and professionally.

Driven by impact
I’m excited about going to work. That’s because I’m able to make a real, measurable impact on the business. I can see it in action: I’ve launched major initiatives and designed new processes, from the ground up. Today, they’re being used across the Group. For example, I recently worked on a project to introduce Undergraduates to dealerships. I presented it to the board of directors and they gave it the go-ahead – we made our first hires this year. It’s incredible to know I’ve been able to create lasting change in just twelve months.

Driven by growth
This business is changing constantly. I’m changing with it. My degree is in Marketing & Design but I wanted to push my boundaries and develop new skills. That flexibility is what makes Volkswagen Group UK different. I’m currently in a dual role: I work on the sales side of our Used Cars division and develop the customer journey for our Fleet team. It’s been an incredible personal transformation. But I’ve also helped transform the business.

Daniel, Undergraduate, Contact Strategy

Driven by communication
We’re the eyes and ears of the Group. We create bridges between our network and our customers, uniting the five brands and creating cohesive strategies for the future. That doesn’t just mean listening – it means using what you hear to do something innovative. Recently, I ran our Mystery Shop campaign, testing the responsiveness of our Customer Service Centre, and managing a huge body of stakeholders and suppliers. Building those connections is what makes this job so rewarding.

Assessment Process

If you pass our initial CV screening stage, you’ll be invited to a telephone interview where you’ll be asked a number of questions to assess your suitability for the Placement. If you’re identified as a stand-out candidate, we’ll invite you to one of our assessment centres, where you’ll meet some of our Managers and other Undergraduates. This process is designed to help us both work out if a Placement here is right for you. Successful candidates will be offered a place soon after the assessment centre.

Frequently asked questions

What does the recruitment journey look like?

To get things started, we’ll ask you to send in your CV and answer some of our online screening questions. If we feel like you’re the right fit for us, you’ll be invited to take part in a telephone interview. If you’re successful, we’ll ask you to come along to our assessment centre in Milton Keynes.

Overall this process usually takes approximately six weeks and we’ll keep in touch with you throughout this time.

What are the minimum requirements to apply?

Our placement is open to any student at a UK university who is eligible to work full-time in the UK for twelve months from June 2018. Students should be on a sandwich degree or course which offers a one-year industrial placement. We’re looking for strong academic achievers but we also want well-rounded, ambitious people with plenty of motivation and a ‘can-do’ attitude. You’ll be working alongside senior members of our team on important projects, so your written and verbal communication skills must be exemplary and it's important that you’re a strong team player who wants to learn more about our business.

What kind of person are you looking for?

We’re all driven by different things. What matters is that you’re just that: driven. We’re looking for people with the energy and determination to pursue a successful, long-term career, and who seek out opportunities to learn, develop and take responsibility. If you share that desire, you’re the kind of person we want to work with.

Can I apply if I have a disability?

Yes, of course. We’re an equal opportunities employer and we welcome applications from all candidates. Please let us know if you have any special requirements so that we can take these into consideration during the recruitment process.

If I get an Undergraduate placement, where will I be based?

All positions are based in the Volkswagen Group UK head office in Milton Keynes.

Undergraduates must move to within a 20 mile radius of our office in Blakelands. Because of this, each year, a community of Undergraduates arrives. This is a great social network for anyone who is new to the area.

What’s the package on offer?

£17,500 per year plus a discretionary bonus.

What development is available on the placements?

As well as a challenging placement you’ll receive structured learning and development throughout your time with us. This includes a buddy, regular meetings with your managers, shadowing opportunities and the chance to be considered for the Graduate programme.

You can take on any extra projects that interest you and we’ll teach you useful business skills throughout the programme, including usage of corporate systems (e.g. Microsoft Office), time management and organisation, presentation skills, and commercial awareness courses.

What does the 12 month placement look like?

It’s a combination of project work, personal development and experiences designed to fully immerse you in our business. This is mapped out across 12 months so you can see exactly what your journey looks likes – click here for a full placement overview.

How is my placement decided?

When you send us your application, you’ll be asked to apply for a particular stream, such as Finance or Marketing. Our HR team will then allocate placements based on where we think you’ll fit in best. It’s important to remember that all of our placements are equally challenging, and will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of people from across the Group.

What happens at the end of the placement?

Throughout your twelve months with us, we’ll be supporting you and tracking your progress. As you develop, we’ll sit down with you to talk about your longer term aspirations and what the Graduate programme can offer you. If you’re interested in taking the next step, we’ll offer you an assessment and, if you’re successful, we’ll offer you a place on the following year’s intake.

Will I have the chance to visit the office and meet my manager before I start the programme?

Yes. If you’re successful, we’ll be in regular contact with you over the summer and will hold a welcome event in 2018.
